Midwife services at Sf-cliniken

A midwife is an expert in reproductive health. Midwives hold a Bachelor’s degree in healthcare and often complete additional training, for example in performing ultrasound examinations related to pregnancy monitoring.

At Sf-cliniken, midwifery services are provided by Merja Gullsten, who has extensive and long-standing professional experience. The range of services includes early pregnancy ultrasound examinations as well as follow-up ultrasounds throughout pregnancy. All appointments begin with a consultation, offering the opportunity to discuss any questions related to ultrasound and pregnancy. Both parents are warmly welcome to attend the appointment.

Early pregnancy ultrasound

An early pregnancy ultrasound (early scan) is usually performed vaginally from week 6 up to week 13 of pregnancy. In later weeks, the examination can be carried out عبر the abdomen. Early ultrasound provides reassurance during the beginning of pregnancy. It allows confirmation of the embryo’s location, determination of the number of fetuses, more accurate dating of the pregnancy, and assessment of fetal well-being.

The examination is safe for both the mother and the fetus and requires no special preparation. For optimal image quality, it is recommended that the bladder is empty.

Pregnancy follow-up ultrasound

Ultrasound can be used to monitor the pregnancy at any stage. As the pregnancy progresses, the examination is usually performed عبر the abdomen. Ultrasound enables monitoring of the fetus’s growth and development. From around week 16, it may be possible to estimate the sex of the fetus if conditions are favorable. However, complete certainty regarding the sex cannot be guaranteed by ultrasound. It is advisable to discuss in advance with the midwife whether you wish to receive this information during the examination.

Official fetal screenings and assessments of structural abnormalities are part of public healthcare services. If needed, our midwife will guide you to contact a maternity clinic or a specialist unit.
