Urinary incontinence

Stress urinary incontinence is a common issue, affecting one-third of women. It can significantly impact daily life, making movement and overall well-being more difficult. Stress urinary incontinence can occur at different stages of life, such as after childbirth, pelvic floor surgeries, or as a result of aging.
At Sf-cliniken, assistance for urinary incontinence is available through corrective surgery (TOT procedure) and Bulkamid mini-invasive treatment.

Urinary incontinence

Bulkamid consists of 97.5% water and 2.5% polyacrylamide, and its effectiveness is based on the volume of the injected gel.
Before the procedure, you will need to attend an assessment with a gynecologist.

What are the benefits of Bulkamid treatment?

The majority of women who have undergone Bulkamid treatment report that their urinary incontinence has either completely stopped or significantly reduced. The effect is typically immediate after the treatment. While the desired outcome is the complete cessation of incontinence, many women find that a significant reduction in symptoms is sufficient if they can resume normal daily life.

If the effect of the Bulkamid treatment is not sufficient, additional injections can be done to improve the result. It is recommended to wait at least 4 weeks after the first injection before any follow-up treatment.

Clinical studies also show that the effectiveness of Bulkamid treatment usually lasts for several years. Studies have also indicated that even 7 years after the treatment, most patients still experience relief.

How do I know if TOT sling surgery or Bulkamid treatment is suitable for me?

Before making a decision, you should visit a gynecologist at Sf-cliniken. During the consultation, your goals, potential complications, and the appropriate procedure and timing will be discussed. Additional tests may also be prescribed if necessary.
